The West Palm Beach shelter operates 24 family apartments. Families may stay up to 2 years. Laura stated that she refers 5-6 families/day to other agencies because the shelter is full. Usually families are referred to domestic violence shelters. She believed that most of the domestic violence shelters are full. She guesses requests for shelter from a single father with children occur once every other month. There is no waiting list. Clients are usually referred from other shelters and must have a "homeless letter" from another agency to prove their eligibility for transitional shelter.
